I have a Nikon D40x, but I get so closeup by using extension tubes. I use 2 Nikon PK-3 tubes, each about 1.5 inches long. The trick with that is that you cant use the flash on closeups as the lens blocks the light.

It was pitch black and very dark, and to make things worse....there were no lights...
